Roof! Costume design
Roof! is a play that explores the trials of friendship, and how our relationships can be tested by outstanding circumstances. Through the transformation of the characters’ tightly knit friend group, the depiction of metamorphosis in each character becomes central. To demonstrate the five-year transformation that takes place between acts, a stark shift in color and line is used. Bright electric and tropical colors become monochromatic in the second act along with a much darker pallet overall, and silhouettes and lines that were organic and flowing in the first act become geometric and constricting to mimic the shift from youthful and carefree attitudes to much heavier ones during the characters’ reunion.
